Good Reference
This text serves as a good reference, however, it is not necessarily well-suited for self-learning. The exercise sets need some revamping.

Sweet and Concise
I used this book as my course text book in my Galois Theory course in my undergraduate.It is pretty self-contained, so even if you forget some of Group and Fields Theory, you will still find it very readable.The little book guides to the Great Theorem by Galois (f is solvable by radical if and only if Gal(f/Q) is solvable) by breaking it into many nice sections.A drawback of this book is that some proofs at the end are omitted because they are put as execrises!Also, bear in mind that this book focus in Q and R (rational and real numbers) field only.In any case, I still recommend this book because it is sweet and concise, for which I can read it like a novel!

Classical "Artin's" Galois theory
From the definition of a conmutative ring to the fundamental theorem to solvability of equations byradicals in 65 pages, 80 theorems and 106 exercises. The exposition, wich follows the now classical tradition of "Artin's" Galois theory, is quite efficient, packing much material in a limited number of pages. The greatest asset of this book is its nice selection of topics, focusing on the fundamental theorem of Galois theory and its application to solbability of equations by radicals, but pausing to make excursions to finite fields or to work outexplicitly some iluminating examples. The style is no-nonsense, crisp but nop hurried. The final 40 pages consist of appendices discussing group theory, ruler an compass constructions and old-fashioned Galois theory. This latter appendix deserves special mention, since it is not customary for a textbook of this size and scope to include such a detailed sketch of the historical motivations behind the theory it describes. One can only agree with the author when he wonders how such thoughts occurred to Galois in the late 1820's, and be grateful to him for providing his reader with material for an answer. ... Read more

IntroductoryAlgebra for College Students
We ordered the Third Edition and received the Second Edition. I would like to return this book for the Third Edition of Introductory Algebra for College Students.

Would give it a ten if I could
I have to confess to a certain degree of academic snobbery when it comes to books on science and math.That is, I tend to look for books produced by PhDs in a specific field who teach at prestigious universities or for collaborations of them.I do, however,pride myself on giving credit where credit is due, and this volume is certainly an example.According to the text's introduction Robert Blitzer, the author of Introductory Algebra for College Students, has a BA in math and psychology with a minor in English literature, an MA in math, and a doctorate in behavioral sciences and teaches in a local community college in Florida.That's quite an eclectic vita.In this case it is an ideal vita, that of a teacher dedicated to student comprehension of his subject.Read more

Worthwhile
For one week after receiving this book I agreed with an earlier very critical review. I changed my mind. The subject is not easy but written by someone who knows his business. Having got used to his notation I find this book more and more useful and refer back to it whenever a problem arises and usually find the answer or some pointer to the answer.

Thr poorest book I have ever read!!!
This is the pooest book I have ever read. You don't know what the author is triing to clarify. All the equatios seem to have jumped out without any derivation. The author lacks stern mathematic fundamentals.

Wonderful book, should be a model for all textbooks
You don't have to be a graphics guru to appreciate this book. A good high school math student could grasp the exposition in this book. I highly recommend this to teenage prodigies, not only for the exposition, but to read about the accomplishments of the prodigies who made this science. This book really emphasizes understanding and generalization - it will serve you well when you head out on your own. It is not language or platform specific and will remain relevant to the future for this reason. This book will serve as the foundations of a CAD, animation, or gaming background. It won't make you an expert in any of the fields, but your feet will be well grounded. The book progresses from Bernstein Polynomials, parametric Curves through Bezier Curves and on into the more recent developments in Knots and NonUniform Rational B-Splines.Read more
